7 Menswear Trends Set to Dominate in 2019

As we come to the end of 2018 and reflect on the year we’ve had, now’s the perfect time to look ahead to next year and start looking forward to the menswear trends you’ll be wearing in 2019. While you might not be a fan of them all, there’s definitely some bold and interesting trends you can expect to see on the high street over the coming few months.
- Handbags
Yes, actual handbags. Not man bags or messenger bags. Gendered fashion seems to be becoming a thing of the past and one of the biggest female symbols, the handbag, has been borrowed and seen on the catwalks for the Spring/Summer 2019 season specifically for men.
- Short shorts
We can only imagine that the 2018 heatwave has been the inspiration for this upcoming trend. Yes, shorts are going to be short, we mean really, really short. In some places, they’ve been affectionately nicknamed “bum skimmers”. We can only hope that the high street has some sense with moderate length shorts for those of us feeling less than brave.
- Rock is back
Ok, rock and roll never really went away, but the actual 80s look of tight black jeans with a modern upgrade is set to hit the high street in 2019. Loose, printed shirts with those tight jeans and Chelsea boots is an easy way to rock this look, guitar slung on your back is entirely optional.
- Trench coats
Another blast from the past with a somewhat dubious reputation, 2019 looks set to be the year of the trench coat. Although they’ve been lurking for a few years now, it’s next year where an element of fun has been added to the wet weather classic with fun printed designs to choose from.
- Bucket hats
A firm favourite at British music festivals where rain and mud are guaranteed, bucket hats are now going further afield and venturing into the high street next year. It’s something of a throwback to the 90s music scene with prints, patchwork and textured styles being presented on the catwalks this year.
- Utility pockets
Cargo trousers have been around for the past few months, but now utility pockets are being seen everywhere else too, from gilets and jackets to body harnesses. Functionality is the aim of the game but is there such a thing as “too many pockets”? There’s only one way to find out.
- Tailored suits
Something we’re pleased to see make a comeback is elegant tailoring, and while many workplaces have gone down the smart casual trend, the two-piece suit is set to make a welcome return. All the key fashion houses were seen putting a spin on tailored classics this year so we can’t wait to see how that translates to high street fashion over the next few months.
